"Beautiful? It's all a question of luck. I was born with good legs. As for the rest... beautiful, no. Amusing, yes."- Josephine Baker
Look at enough pictures of her and you'll become obsessed! Her story is the kind you only see in tragic novels. Born to a mother whose parents were slaves and a father she knew nothing about, she dropped out of school at age twelve and lived in the slums of St. Louis, Missouri. By dancing on street corners she earned money and was soon put to work in New York City for vaudeville at age 15. She then moved to Paris and became an overnight sensation. She was internationally known as "Black Pearl," "Bronze Venus," and "Creole Goddess." But in Paris she was simply "La Baker." Her story is much to epic to put onto this blog but I suggest looking her up!

Gibson Girl
Lovely. So naturally elegant. She looks a lot like my older sister, who's birthday happens to be today! Her face and hair were made for this time period. Happy Birthday Nikki!

Mamma Roma
"Great passions, my dear, don't exist: they're liars fantasies. What do exist are little loves that may last for a short or a longer while."- Anna Magnani
A force of nature! Read anything about Anna Magnani and you'll find the words, earthy, volcanic, sensual and passionate over and over again. Watch her in any film and the same descriptions will spring up in your mind. The Italian born actress was never considered a great beauty, but her allure is undeniable.

"Little Scout"
"Keeping a feminine approach is vital - men hate bossy females."-Ida Lupino
For a former starlet with such an angelic face, her accomplishments are astounding. She was one of the first female filmmakers in Hollywood; writing, directing and producing films with controversial subjects. As an actress she would often joke that she was the poor man's Bette Davis. Gotta love a smart woman who can laugh at herself!

The Voice
"I am a private person who does not always want to be in the spotlight!" -Anna Netrebko
If you are not a fan of opera than you must see the film La Bohème starring Anna Netrebko and Rolando Villazon. It will change your mind completely! It definitely changed/blew mine. The music is absolutely beautiful, the cinematography is excellent, Rolando is passionate and Anna is enchanting. It's difficult to look at anyone else when she's on screen. Keep in mind that it is an opera so the acting is slightly overdone. Still, the story is so tragic and romantic you'll be swept away.

Diahann
"I like to think I opened doors for other women, although that wasn't my original intention."-Diahann Carroll
A trailblazer! The thing I most like about her is that she wasn't trying to make any kind of statement. She just wanted to do what she was good at.

Minnie
"I was a homely kid with freckles that came out every spring and stuck on me till Christmas."- Myrna Loy
I love this woman! She was certainly a creature of her time. She was always pushing the boundaries without being vulgar or obnoxious. And that undeniable sense of humor and wit didn't hurt much either!

A Woman
"You can only perceive real beauty in a person as they get older."- Anouk Aimee
The picture of French cool. Her face is covered in this picture but it's a great fashion shot.
